The maternity ward of the Pervomaiskiy Central District Hospital in the east of Ukraine was opened on June 13, 2019 after a comprehensive renovation. The building was refurbished with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government in partnership with the City Council of Pervomaiskiy.

Pervomaiskiy Central District Hospital is the only institution providing secondary medical care in the city and the district. More than 200 000 people received medical care during last year. Hospital stay in individual and family wards is now more comfortable due to the renovation work. Germany provided new furniture and medical equipment including the laundry room for the maternity department. Furthermore, GIZ helped in elaborating the development strategy for the Central District Hospital. Medical personnel participated in a number of trainings on communication and stress management skills.

“The city’s infrastructure is not heavily overloaded and is, therefore, able to host IDPs. However, it remains out of date. GIZ projects expanded capacities of the city’s social institutions with regard to integrating IDPs and providing efficient services to them. The maternity ward of the Pervomaiskyi Central District Hospital is one of such examples”, – said Mykola Baksheev, the city mayor.
