Ingrid Landes and Kateryna Zeziulina, the Peacebuilding Advisors on Peace Education of the Civil Peace Service of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Ukraine, organized together with their partner organization Communal Institution of Higher Education “Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education” of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council a 5-day training for teaching staff and associated teachers and school directors of the Academy on “Nonviolent Communication as an Instrument for Peaceful School Development” outside of the city of Dnipro in the first week of June.
It is the third training in a series of Peace Education training for the team of the academy. This training aimed to create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, and experimental learning as a role model to be applied to the school context. It encouraged participants to develop their emotional intelligence and critical thinking, self-awareness, self-empathy skills and to practically introduce exercises and techniques, which participants will be able to apply in work with colleagues, students, and parents.
The trainers Lyudmila Kaminska and Maryna Vostrova worked with the group in an interactive and experience-based way and adapted the training in the process to the needs of the group, which appreciated the supportive and open atmosphere, inputs for reflection, and especially tools and methods to take away.
After a long period of remote work, being once again in one room and having the chance to work in presence together was a big relief and chance for the participants as well as us. It was challenging to prepare for the training not knowing what the situation will be like in a couple of months. But thanks to a mix of good luck with the most recent development of Covid-19-cases in the region as well as a set of careful preparation measures (express-tests, masks when moving around without a distance of 1.5 meters, open doors and windows, and so on), it all went well.
We are very grateful for the patience and cooperation showed by our partner organisation, trainers, and participants and happy to have found solutions how to make it possible!
